February 22-25th The month of February is coming to a close real soon! We have been so busy immersed in all the daily learning, fun, discovery and community bonding that it is hard to believe that we reached 100 Days AT School this week. Here is a glimpse at our week: Citizenship: I can show kindness to others. I can understand that people are different. I can share my ideas with others. For Pink Shirt Day: we began by looking at the history of why it started and how it has grown. After we had the pleasure of learning from our Grade 2/3 class about being an Upstander and what that really meant. From there we shifted our focus to a book called, The Invisible Boy , by Trudy Ludwig. This book sparked a fantastic discussion on the messages found in the story and illustrations. From there we tackled the question - "What can we do to make the world a better place?" Using the Think, Pair, Share collaborative strategy, students came up with lots of thoughtful ideas that we ho...

Feb 14- 16th This week was short but very memorable and jam packed with learning and friendship. Our week started with Valentine's day. Students were very excited to participate in the tradition of handing out cards to their peers. We have also been focussing on, "what are positive affirmations for us to say to ourselves and others?" During circle, we have been practicing positive affirmations we can say to ourselves and others to lift us up, carry us through the hard times and just to be kind. From there, students generated a list and then used these to create little messages to fill our classmates' Friendship Jars. This week we were also very fortunate to participate in a virtual presentation - The Virtual Anti Bully Magic Show. This was a great tie in for us around belonging, kindness and Pink Shirt Day which is coming up next week. Here is a summary of that presentation: This week in math with Ms Rowland, we focussed on Subtraction, what it means, the process ...

We also learned about how maple syrup is made and sugaring off. We were fortunate to be able to take part in games set up by the older students as well as to have a tasty maple treat from the Sugar Shack. Thank you very much to the grade 4/5 and 5/6 classes for this wonderful learning experience. I can create narratives with structure and detail. "Yes the birds don't like those - they make them feel yucky". "Look at the the ice - why is it different under the bridge? - "Because it is warmer under the bridge." "The bridge shades the ice there." "Why is the ice not frozen there in the middle?" - "Because it is in the open and the wind blows on it." "Because the sun shines on it, there is no shade." "Because the water is deeper and faster there." "Who made t...
