October 23- 27th  We had a cold and snowy week but welcomed the weather as we were very excited to get out and play and learn in the snow! Here is a look at our our adventures:  Science - We have been learning about our earth and spent time looking at topographical maps of the World, Canada and Alberta and asking ourselves What do you know? What do you wonder? Students began to recognize that different colors on these maps represented land, water and landforms. From there we moved to look at different land forms and bodies of water on earth. We spent time matching vocabulary and pictures to help us become more proficient at identifying landforms. From there we narrowed our focus to landforms in Alberta. Our next step was to build representations of land forms using paper to document their understanding of landforms and bodies of water in Alberta. We also spent time outside in the snow using the land as our medium to create landforms and mini land masses with groups of peers. We loved

October 16 - 19 We had another short but wonderful week together in our learning spaces engaging in many different activities, sharing our discoveries and building relationships.  This week we went back to the Indigenous Learning Framework  to build upon our learning expectations, ways to take care of ourselves to feel balanced and how to build relationships. We then examined what a treaty is - a relationship between groups and used the idea of a treaty being a commitment to one another. Students then developed a "treaty link" which would represent themselves and we joined all our links to form a circle signifying our commitment that would be continuous. Students also reflected on why they chose the colors and shapes of beads they used: In math we shifted to focus on numbers.  Our first focus this week centered around ordinal numbers vs cardinal numbers.  We engaged in different tasks to differentiate between these different types of numbers and real life experiences where

October 10 - 13th  This week was a short week but an awesome week together!  Here is a look at our week:  Field trip to Fish Creek Provincial Park- We were so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to go and spend the day at Fish Creek Park. The weather was beautiful, the land was on full display with all the beautiful colors ,the creatures that lived there made appearances and we made lovely connections with all and each other. In addition we also focused on the positive and negative impacts of humans on the park, learned more about food webs/chains, discovered evidence of lifecycles and were sleuths finding evidence of animals/insects that habituate the park. We were able to bring all of this adventure and discovery back to school and spent time reflecting on our land based learning. Part of this reflection included students creating their own documentation of their experience as well as reflecting through the holistic lens of the Medicine Wheel by identifying the - To know, To B
