November 21 - 24th  I can make Predictions and test my predictions. I can discover the meaning behind surface tension and cohesion. I can mix liquids and discover that liquids have different densities.  Students worked through two different scientific inquiries this week involving liquids. The first experiment involved dropping water droplets on a penny. Students first had to make a prediction on how many droplets would sit on a penny before spilling over and then put their predictions to the test in 3 different trials to determine if they noticed a difference between the trials.  The second experiment involved adding different materials to water (water, food coloring, oil and soap) to observe what would happen. Students discovered that the oil and water separated when added together and then were excited to see how the dish soap affected the mixture.  Students were encouraged to try these experiments at home to show what they have learned.  I Can Add and Decompose Numbers within Twent

November 14-18th What a wonderful week we had examining different communities in Canada and continuing our exploration of liquids. We also enjoyed some wonderful time outside connecting with nature and our environment and experiencing the different changes in our seasons.  Just a reminder that we go outside  everyday  the outside temperature is warmer than -20 degrees celsius.  Everyone should come each day with the appropriate winter gear (snow pants, boots, mitts, hats, etc.) to enjoy their time outdoors in comfort.  It is also important that students continue to build their skills to  independently  put on their winter gear.  This would be a great thing for families to practice at home so they are successful at school.   I Can Appreciate the Diversity of Communities in Canada / I Can Examine How Communities Have Changed and Emerged This week we had an in-school field trip with the Glenbow Museum.  Our presenter came in and showed pictures from the arctic and showed us artifacts from

November 7-11 Poppies - inspired by the paintings of Georgia O' Keeffe. Created using multimedia - paint, pastel, tissue and construction paper. Brr! It was a cold week, but we powered through it and it gave us opportunities for connections as we worked through  the topics of liquids as well as, Canadian Communities such as Alberta and Nunavut.  We also spent time this week learning and broadening our awareness of Remembrance day and the role of Veterans and Peacekeepers - including Indigenous and  animals.  We also learned about the significance of the Poppy and why it is such an important symbol of gratitude and remembrance.  We used a book titled, What Does Peace Feel Like? by Vladimir Radunsky as a provocation for a writing task about Peace through our senses.  Here is a glimpse of the brainstorming we did prior to our writing : PEACE      LOOKS LIKE   Calm  Smiles Having fun with family Hugging, sharing, working together, helping SOUNDS LIKE  Silence Laughing Kind words Music

October 31 - November  What a week! Halloween, winter conditions, lock down practice, fire drill and a whole ton of learning, discovering and exploring with our classroom family. Here is a small look at our week -  Halloween Learning tasks, challenges and fun - subitizing numbers, creating using shapes, adding numbers together to get a score, authentic writing: making cards, stem challenges - building fences, building pumpkin launchers and building monsters, making patterns, communicating with peers to get answers to a survey and recording in tallies/graphs. I can use my senses to describe objects/people or things. i can use my senses to give descriptions both orally and in written form.  We continued our work on enhancing the way we observe people, places and objects through our senses. This week we used monsters as our topic to describe. Students engaged in a shared writing experience where we closely examined a made up example of a monster and then used our senses along with our i
