Feb 14- 16th

This week was short but very memorable and jam packed with learning and friendship.

Our week started with Valentine's day. Students were very excited to participate in the tradition of handing out cards to their peers. We have also been focussing on, "what are positive affirmations for us to say to ourselves and others?" During circle, we have been practicing positive affirmations we can say to ourselves and others to lift us up, carry us through the hard times and just to be kind. From there, students generated a list and then used these to create little messages to fill our classmates' Friendship Jars.

This week we were also very fortunate to participate in a virtual presentation - The Virtual Anti Bully Magic Show. This was a great tie in for us around belonging, kindness and Pink Shirt Day which is coming up next week.

Here is a summary of that presentation:

This week in math with Ms Rowland, we focussed on Subtraction, what it means, the process of taking away and how to represent these situations in number equations/sentences. We emphasized that in subtraction equations we must always write the largest digit first, then minus from that digit to get the difference . We practiced this in games, with dominos and manipulatives.

This week in math with Ms. Yasin, students practiced the mental math strategy of adding 10! Students used a 100's chart to find the speedy quick trick for adding a 10 to ANY number: just jump down! Then they were able to add 10 to numbers without needing to use their fingers. Some students were excited to try the challenge of adding multiples of 10 as well!

**A while back we shared about our book we were creating about our Falll/Winter Walks! Here is a link to our digital version - Please enjoy with your child as they take you through their amazing documentation . Click on link to open.
