Hello Ramsay Families:

In honour of Remembrance Day, we will be collecting items for the Veteran’s Food Bank. If you are able to contribute, please begin sending items to school on Monday, October 25th. We will continue to collect donations until Wednesday, November 10th. 

 

Here is a list of their most desired contributions:

Collection list: (new items only please) 

  • Gluten free non-perishable food
  • Canned corn, mushrooms, beef, chilli or stew
  • Canned ham or luncheon meat
  • Juice
  • Flour
  • Unscented fabric softener and laundry detergent
  • Unscented lotion 
  • Dishwasher pods
  • Bandages

Last week was another busy week filled with learning, care for one another, building a growth mindset and mindfulness. 

We fully immersed ourselves into math and science through a pumpkin discovery, created monster masterpieces which led to learning about descriptive words and continued to build on our literacy skills through letter and word work as well as reading strategies. To top off our week,  we had a Halloween celebration filled with activities that incorporated group challenges, art and fun. The three main activities were - A mystery challenge : build a device that will launch a pumpkin, build a pony bead spider and build a skeleton. Everyone had an amazing day working together and having fun. Students were gifted books from School council, which was a lovely way to finish the day. Thank you to all.

  September 8th  Welcome to our grade 2 blog!  We have had an awesome week getting to know one another, building community, establishing routines and expectations, learning from one another and having fun.  We will continue to build on all of these things as we navigate through these first weeks back at school. Here is a look at some activities from our first 6 days together.  A look at our classroom - room 9 Literacy Activities - We used the book , Our Class is a Family,  by Shannon Olsen as an anchor text to build on our discussion topic about families and what they might look like and what families we belong to. Students then created a self portrait to add to our family portrait wall.  We also began looking at our own identity and what makes us who we are. This included books on celebrating our looks and how our features give us our unique characteristics. March 11th - 16th  The weeks are just flying by in March! We had such a great week together learning, exploring and making connections.  Here is a little snapshot of our week -  Community Walk - we were so very fortunate to have such a beautiful morning yesterday to head out on the land and experience the changes around us. We were very lucky to observe some ducks and geese along the river bank which sparked dialogue into what they were doing, eating and how they maneuver on the ice and water. We also spent time observing natural and manmade shapes in our environment and spent some time critically thinking about some of the purposes for buildings/structures that we viewed as well as analyzing the tree project that is underway on part of the river bank. It was an amazing opportunity to spend time together with our other grade two class learning from the land. June 19-23 Here is a look at us walking our way through the last full week of grade 1! National Indigenous People's Day & Summer Solstice  This was an amazing day of celebration and reflection. We started the day with a walk on the land to learn on, from and with the land and to show gratitude for the past seasons we have been together and what lies ahead in summer. We enjoyed our time outside with Ms Paradis' class being mindful of our surroundings.  Part of our learning on this day was centered around the flags each school was gifted with. We learned that these flags - The Treaty 7, The Metis and the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami flag  celebrate the original stewards of this territory and our system commitment to respect the ancestral and inherent rights of those nations.
