October 3-6th

I hope that you all have been enjoying this amazing fall weather that we have been experiencing.  Our class has been incredibly grateful for the sunshine and  beautiful gifts of the season.

Here is a glimpse into last week:

I can identify and explore different shades of color found in natural and manmade materials. I can differentiate between warm and cool colors. I can find colors while out on the land.

Students in Ms. Paradis' class and our class partnered up with sample swatches of warm colors to see what colors they could identify in nature and how earth's natural colors provides palettes for us to admire, create and use.

I can identify and create repeating and growing patterns. I can express the difference between the types of patterns. I can identify the core of a pattern and the number of times the core repeats.

Students have been immersed in different ways to look at pattern and in building patterns using different materials. Here are some examples of mandalas which students built which encompasses both repeating and growing patterns.

I am mindful of who, what and why i should be grateful. i can express my gratitude and learn about reciprocity.

A common thread that runs through all of work and learning is gratitude and reciprocity. Students have learned the importance of the idea that there is always something to be grateful for. We have also began to understand the notion of reciprocity - the exchange of things/knowledge for mutual benefit. Students have come to understand that we only take what we need and we always give thanks.

As part of this work we examined an anchor text titled, The Grateful book and looked at the world around us through the lens of gratitude. This book inspired us to focus on gratitude as a continued practice and we developed our own ideas of Who, What and Why we should be grateful.

** Please remember to send your child ready for a day of exploring and learning outside on Wednesday for our field trip to the Bow Habitat. Students should come to school with layers of clothing for the seasonal weather, have eaten a full breakfast and have a nutritious snack, lunch and full water bottle for the day. Thank you in advance.
