I can create narratives with structure and detail.

This week we looked to enhance our personal narratives by adding more structure and detail. We began by reading different examples of personal narrative books such as Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall; Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems; When the Relatives Came, Cynthia Rylant to help us build our writing. We used this graphic organizer as we read through the different books to identify how the authors organized their writing and then used it to help us develop the structure for our own narrative.

Remember : Sensory details -

Feelings -

We also focussed on how to use transition sentences in the beginning, middle and end of our narrative such as One day, Last week, Then, Next, I felt, I was.. to help us connect our ideas.

I can show my understanding of repeating patterns using many different ways including number patterns.
This week my math group continued to review outcomes we have previously covered. This includes patterns, identifying, the name, core and how many times the core repeats.

Patterns can be made by colors, sizes, shapes, directions and numbers.

Look at the example below, what is the pattern name?(use letters)

4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6

AABBC

core - 4, 4, 5, 5, 6 - repeats 3 times.

Ms. Yasin's math group continued working on their subtraction strategies and applying their skills to word problems. C.U.B.E.S was a helpful tool for dissecting and understanding subtraction problems. Then students had the opportunity to write their own story problems given a picture or a number goal! It was helpful to remember subtraction key words and sentences to use, like "how many are left?".

I can present my ideas to an audience and answer questions.
Last week we shared our pollinator research with our grade 4/5 buddies. We enjoyed sharing all that we have learned about the different pollinators we researched and how we created our different works of art to accompany our written work.
