March 14 -18th

We have had another amazing week together! Here is a look at what we have been up to -

I can explore how geography, language and culture help make a Canadian communities unique.

Over the last couple weeks we have been exploring the Arctic, Nunavut and Iqaluit, We have been examining all the unique features from the landscape and geography, homes and building, transportation, animals, language and culture. We have been enjoying reading books, watching videos and exploring media to learn more about this unique community.

Students have been having fun listening to and learning the beautiful language of inuktitut. I promised them i would share a website here that we have been enjoying. It is called Anaana's Tent : http://www.anaanastent.com/

I can use a variety of materials to build. I can design and construct.

Students were challenged to work together as a team to build a leprechaun trap using simple materials, with a time limit. We had a ton of fun creating traps that had hidden gold to lure leprechauns. Students were also surprised to see the mischievous mess they left behind! Here are some before and after shots -

I can understand and apply strategies for addition facts.

Students in my math group spent time exploring and finding ways to learn how to use doubles to become more fluent with addition facts. We made doubles facts booklets to help us learn doubles facts and playing games. Students brought their games home to play with their families.

This week, Ms. Yasin’s math group continued to review their doubles facts and bonds to 10. Students made a math fortune teller to practice their doubles over spring break! The group also reviewed friendly numbers, and were introduced to double digit addition using place value (decomposing the question into tens and ones, and adding the tens and ones separately before combining again). We will work on this in depth after the break!

HAVE A WONDERFUL BREAK!
