September 7-10

We have had another wonderful week of connecting and building our community of learners! We have immersed ourselves into learning new things about ourselves, our peers, our land and our community.

Here is a snapshot of one of our learning tasks this week:

I can identify each of the senses, and explain how we use our senses in interpreting the world.

I can identify and describe examples of plant and animal changes that occur on a seasonal basis. I can record observable seasonal changes over a period of time.

Tamaracks in the Summer - we headed out to the land around our school to connect with the Tamarack (Larch) trees, their features and document them in the season of Summer. These trees are an important part of the land ecosystem around Ramsay school and we will connect with them regularly to observe their seasonal changes and how they are impacted.

During our time outside amongst the Tamaracks we were mindful with nature by experiencing our surroundings through our 5 senses. This way of learning and being mindful of our surroundings through our senses will be a focal point throughout our learning journey this year. As we immersed ourselves in this way of thinking, we discovered new insights into the seasonal changes as we move from Summer to Fall, had new wonderings and were gifted with the opportunity to watch an Eastern Grey squirrel building up his drey in preparation for seasonal change. Students were also given the task to document how the Tamaracks looked, felt and smelled in a scientific drawing with labels. This documentation will give us a reference point to turn back to as we continue to observe the seasonal change over our school year.
